FFXI Maps 1.4
It's been a while, but while waiting for FFXI to patch today, I decided to update some map dats. I added dats for Alzadaal Ruins and all the Remnants, as well as added some more directions to sky maps, and a few other small things. The maps are largely based on maps in Sean's map pack and ffxiclopedia, so if the info is wrong, it's not my fault.

If any of these maps crash the game, please let me know and I'll try to fix the problem. I don't play FFXI anymore so it's hard for me to throughly test this.

You can download the DATs from filefront.com, or savefile.com.

To install the files, make sure you are fully logged out of FFXI and PlayOnline, then simply unzip the zip file to your PlayOnline\SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XI directory.

DO NOT INSTALL WHILE LOGGED INTO FFXI or POL or the game may crash or behave strangely.

Hey Kuro! New job statics were awesome! Unfortunately, I'm working on a new job in real life right now and don't have that kind of time anymore. Are the new ffxi jobs cool or useful? I haven't been following the ffxi news at all.

I figured this might be a decent place to post. Since most of you are familiar with .dat files, do you know which .dat is the new light blue palette background that SE made? Somehow mine was reverted back to the same color background as my text box =\

Hey, really appreciate the map pack and GUI update. However, I was curious about the process you go through to update the maps dats. I can't seem to find a list of the new map dats anywhere, and I have no idea which tools are used to say, convert a BMP from ffxi-atlas into a map dat usable ingame.

If you could point me towards a tutorial on how to do this, and possibly an updated list of the WoTG dats, I would be very thankful.

I have a guide on how to use changetex somewhere in the archives of my livejournal. You can search for it if you want. Just so you know, some maps are stored as DXT3 files (which you can save in Photoshop with the Nvidia DDS plugin) and some maps are BMP files. If the game expects one type of map but you saved a map in the other format, the game will crash when you try to load it. Generally, maps that were created pre-Zilart are BMP, and all the rest are DXT3, but there are a few exceptions. It's pretty easy to tell which is which since the BMP and DXT3 maps have different file sizes.

I can add WOTG maps whenever someone makes them. I don't have WOTG and don't plan on getting it so it would be difficult for me to create maps for zones I've never seen.

There are new ones up on FFXI-atlas.com, they arent marked very well and in the case of Pashhow Marshlands [S] its marked wrong, for Grauberg entrance.

THANK YOU so much for the DAT editing tutorial. I created these WOTG map DATS a few days ago and today just saw that someone else already did it too. Arrrggg... oh well. I haven't checked out the other person's but mine are recent as of today (I checked the websites to see if anybody added new content to them) and I made sure to include the logging, mining, and harvesting points on the few that had them. I pulled my maps from ffxi-atlas.com with the exception of Jugner Forest [S] which came from wiki.ffxiclopedia.org because it has more stuff. Now all the world needs is for someone on ffxi-atlas.com to add in the Campaign outposts for each map and the Cavernous Maw locations on the present day maps. Feel free to add these to your next map pack version, as I'm sure most people are too lazy to read the comments for updates from others (like I was). Enjoy and thank you again! :-) http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/7/18/1277606/ffxi-wotg-maps.zip

Hey guys, I've been wondering the same thing about the maps, and thanks to Brandson's tutorial about ChangeTex, I compiled the new maps together and made a map pack for them. I also changed a few of the things with some of the maps, as someone said Pashhow had the wrong location from Grauberg, and a few other locations were changed/added. It's working fine on my pc and my wife's, but this is my first attempt with changing the maps. Anyways, if you'd like to try it out, I have it on my site http://repository.sharpfire.net/patches/ffxi-atlas.WotG.A.zip . Let me know if it's working for you guys!

Also, a HUGE thanks to Brandson for putting that tutorial up and for making these amazing mods. It's such an improvement to an already great game. If it wasn't for him, I would've been waiting months before someone else did it. Thanks a TON Brandson!

Maps - a bannable offense?
(Anonymous)
2008-02-07 08:01 pm UTC (link)
These are fantastic - thanks so much!

On a similar note, someone from my LS just got banned (not suspended) for "using modified maps" as he put it. Has anyone heard anything similar? It is troubling to me that SE would ban someone for using modified maps, as the level of offense, I would think, would be much lower than botting, use of cheets, or other violations of the Terms & Conditions. I love these maps, but don't want to endanger my account. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Your LS buddy must have been using something else or isn't giving you 100% of the story truthfully. Modifying .dat files doesn't break POL terms and conditions nor give you an edge over anyone else and doesn't change the gameplay for you or others. Using this map pack is no different from someone using windower and opening up ffxiclopedia or ffxi-atlas.

Correct, it just replaces the in game data files with new ones, but you still need to unlock them the same way. The new maps put in have info such as tunnels in the Jungles (easier to navigate), NM positions, mining/logging/harvesting points, and other extra information, like you see on the Vanadiel Atlas webpages.

If you want maps even when not quested/bought, use an external program like ApRadar.
