Brandson's FFXI Projects [Oct. 31st, 2008|03:06 pm]
I have made some DAT file modifications for the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, particularly to modify the default user interface. To make my FFXI projects easier to keep track of, here is a list of all of the modifications I've worked on and will be updated as new versions are released.

Fonts, Icons, and Windows: FFXI UI Mods 0.13
Maps: FFXI Maps 1.4
Models: FFXI Models 0.01

In addition to my work, the UI pack also includes status icons by Faranim and Lazureus, and other icons by Gizmo. The map pack includes maps from ffxi-atlas.com, some assault maps by Coren, and Alzadaal and Remnants maps from Sean's map pack and ffxiclopedia.org.

If you'd like info on how you can make custom modifications to FFXI DAT files yourself, see this old post I made from June 2006: Quick and Dirty DAT Editing.

December 2, 2007: released FFXI UI Mods 0.13
November 19, 2007: released FFXI UI Mods 0.12 and FFXI Maps 1.4
August 27, 2007: released FFXI UI Mods 0.11b
June 5, 2007: released FFXI UI Mods 0.11a
October 22, 2006: released FFXI Models 0.01
May 27, 2006: released FFXI Maps 1.3.3 with some updated TAU maps

Hey Brandson, Ive seen a few other people ask you before. How the hell do you get your graphics to look that good? I cant even come close to what yours looks like. Any tutorial you wish to share with us? Programs? Edits?

Share the spoils!

It might make sense to put this stuff in your description in the User Profile, since that doesn't get lost like a journal entry does.

Sup. Gotta first say i like the work you do with maps.
Second, i'd like to ask if you have a link to the tools you use to convert/inject maps. And or a guide.
ffxi-atlas.com has updated lots of maps and i have lots of free time.
Would be cool if someone could provide me with a link.

Thanks ^b

Re: Tools

I don't have time right now to write a big long guide on this, but this is the list of apps I use:

polutils, to see what dat is what
photoshop + nvidia dds plugin, to create/edit/save the map graphic as a dds or bmp
changetex, to inject dds maps into the right dat
ff11mapconv, to inject bmp maps into the right dat
ultraedit, for random hex editing here and there

Always backup your dats before you mess with them. Not all maps are stored in the same format. A good rule of thumb is that if the map is new starting with Zilart or has been updated since Zilart was released, then it's probably a dds (DXT3C) file. Otherwise it's probably an 8bit bmp. If you make the mistake of saving a map that should be a bmp as a dds and try to load it in-game, the game will crash. Good luck!

Is it possible to make it so even if you don't have the maps, they're displayed in the game? Or not possible <_<

Brandson~ I love your UI But is there any way you can make a 51.dat that has the chat/equipment font the same as the font you use on the hp/mp bar and in the auctionhouse?

problems with version

I downloaded the zip file yesterday and extracted the files to the FFXI folder and FFXI keeps crashing out after the reminder about real life. I'd selected yes to all when it asked me if it was ok to replace files. What did I do wrong?

Re: problems with version

You haven't provided me with much information, so all I can tell you is fully log out of FFXI and POL, restore all your original dat files, and only copy over my ROM\119\51.DAT. Then login to POL and FFXI without using windower or any other 3rd party program and tell me what happens. So far, the only people who reported crashing later realized that they copied my DAT files into the wrong directories thereby overwriting the wrong files. There are also sometimes problems if you try to copy over ROM\119\51.DAT while logged into FFXI or POL. I personally have never experienced a crash logging into FFXI using any of the dats I have currently posted.

The Down Load for the Maps doesn't seem to be working though, the Ui mod pack down loads fine. Not to sure what the porb is.

Re: Hmm

SaveFile.com times out a lot. It took me six attempts to get the supplemental ToAU pack.

Hmm, maybe savefile.com is pissed I've used up 53GB of bandwidth in a month... I will upload a copy to another site like rapidshare.de too when I get home from work tonight.

Harvesting Points

First and foremost, this is hands down the best thing I have seen for FFXI. Top notch, good job! ^^)b

Second, mind updating the maps with things such as harvesting points in West Sab? I came across those by accident, and would to see those on there.

Keep up the good work.

Re: Harvesting Points

Thanks. Is there a map available on a webpage somewhere that shows all of the harvesting points? If so, I'll definitely include it. ffxi-atlas.com doesn't show harvesting points for west sarutabaruta.

just a suggestion, switch cursor with the blue one already in game(when you turn the camera with mouse right click) and thin out the highlight bar for equip, should look pimp.
